Allens Arthur Robinson

Louise Jenkins

Louise was one of the firm's first female partners. She combines her litigation practice in Melbourne with raising four young children.

'Many of the partners have young families and the firm is very supportive of them and their needs,' she says.

'I run my own practice. I work very hard. I have a lot of autonomy and that is respected. If I want to go to a school concert or something similar, I go. It's all about client demands and expectations and overall I find they're very reasonable.'

Louise says her work hours are "client responsive", so she puts in the hardest work when it's needed and can ease when demands are lesser.

Louise joined the firm in 1982 as a second-year lawyer and was appointed a partner in 1988. She says she loves her role.

'The work keeps me here - I genuinely love it. I like the challenges it offers, the fact I'm doing new things all the time and using the knowledge I've gained over the years. There are also lots of good junior staff who are excellent, enthusiastic and keep me thinking and on the ball. I find that very invigorating.'

Louise received her double degree in Arts/Law from the University of Melbourne.
