Transparency International

Allens is assisting the Armenian Chapter of Transparency International, a non-government organisation devoted to transparent and accountable governance systems, with an analysis of Australian resources law.

The information provided by Allens will be included in a comparative report on the sustainable and accountable management of state-owned natural resources internationally. Allens is providing advice on Australian best practice in relation to the:

  • disposal of natural resources, for example, the requirements and government decision-making processes for obtaining rights to explore for and extract natural resources;
  • social and environmental responsibility requirements placed on persons exploring for and extracting natural resources; and
  • procedures to ensure the sustainable use of Australia's scarce resources.

This information will assist Transparency International to advocate for prudent and transparent practices for the management of natural resources in Armenia.

Hummingfish Foundation

The Hummingfish Foundation was established to protect the earth's unspoiled natural environments by promoting sustainable community-based nature tourism.

Hummingfish aims to link community-based nature tourism start-ups with potential customers. It works with both governments and local stakeholders, and applies branding and marketing expertise in advancing the nature-based tourism industry.

The Hong Kong office has assisted the foundation in its establishment and obtaining tax exemption status in Hong Kong.

Australian Rainforest Conservation Society, Inc

For a number of years, Allens has acted for the Australian Rainforest Conservation Society Inc. (ARCS), a registered environmental organisation, in relation to its Springbrook Rescue Project.

This ambitious project aims to protect and restore properties in the Springbrook region on the Gold Coast Hinterland, with the eventual aim of including them in the unique World Heritage listed rainforest areas in this region. Initially, this involved setting up a new tax-deductible gift fund specifically for the project. Allens then assisted ARCS in the development of a restoration agreement with the Queensland Government in relation to the restoration and conservation of properties purchased by the Government. More recently, Allens has assisted ARCS in the transfer from generous benefactors of the property known as Ankida, ensuring the future protection of the outstanding conservation values of this property.
