Gavin's practice focuses on all aspects of the technology, media and telecommunications sector. He has extensive experience working in both London and Australia and specialises in contracts for the procurement and development of large-scale technology platforms, technology licensing arrangements, major business process and technology outsourcing and offshoring deals, corporate transactions in the technology, telecommunications and new media sectors. Gavin also advises on major commercial contracts and regulatory advice for clients in the telecommunications and media industries and on data security and privacy issues.
His main clients include Vodafone Hutchison Australia, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Westpac, NBN Co Limited, Thomson Reuters, News Corporation (and its subsidiaries) and RailCorp.
Prior to Gavin's time at Allens he worked at both Linklaters and Clifford Chance in London and was a key external legal adviser to RTL, Europe's largest TV broadcaster, and the principal commercial and regulatory legal adviser to National Grid Wireless (now known as Arqiva), the UK's main broadcast transmission and independent mobile telecoms tower provider. He also spent time working as a broadcasting policy adviser at the UK's converged telecoms and media regulator, Ofcom.
Gavin was described by the UK-based independent guide Legal 500 in 2006 as 'a rising star ... heavily involved and highly recommended' and, in 2008, the guide stated that he 'always goes the extra mile.'
He has a Masters with Honours in Modern History from St. Andrews University, Scotland. Gavin is admitted to practice both in New South Wales and in England and Wales.
