Vaughan's experience and expertise reflects his versatile skills as a corporate and commercial lawyer in a range of jurisdictions. He has been described as being 'absolutely commercial with a first class commercial approach' and has been named as a tier 1 leading individual in Chambers Global for the past five years.
Vaughan is primarily a projects and transactions lawyer with a focus on resources and infrastructure. He has more than 19 years' experience across a broad range of commercial practice areas.
While currently based in the firm's Brisbane office, Vaughan spends a substantial amount of his time in the Port Moresby office (Papua New Guinea) having previously been based there for nearly nine years. Vaughan has responsibility for the firm's Papua New Guinea Practice.
Vaughan is PNG counsel advising ExxonMobil as operator of the PNG LNG Project. He also advises PNG Floating LNG on its proposed floating LNG facility in the Gulf of Papua New Guinea, and various other oil and gas companies on their PNG interests. In the minerals sector, Vaughan is advising Nautilus Minerals on its world first Solwara 1 seafloor mining project, Marengo Mining on its Yandera copper molybdenum project and Bougainville Copper on its PNG interests.In Australia, Vaughan was the lead legal adviser to Shell Australia on its 20-year retail fuel Alliance with Coles Express. Vaughan also advised Shell Australia, United Energy and Woodside on their divestment of Pulse Energy to AGL for A$890 million.
