John has been a litigation partner with the firm since 1998. He has over 12 years' experience handling complex construction, engineering, insurance and products liability litigation both in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Litigation, arbitrations and disputes in which John is currently, or has recently been, involved include:
- acting for a GOC in a dispute with a contractor over the construction of a major infrastructure facility in Townsville;
- acting for the subcontractor in a dispute over the construction of infrastructure works for a major sports facility in Brisbane;
- acting for a GOC in disputes with the designers and manufacturers of a number of dams throughout Queensland;
- acting for a firm of engineers in respect of a dispute concerning sewerage works in North Queensland;
- acting for the mine operators of a Central Queensland coalfield in respect of a dispute concerning the operations and maintenance of a dragline;
- having acted for a contractor in relation to a construction dispute over a high-rise building at Surfers Paradise;
- having acted for a major municipal authority in a dispute with the contractor over the construction of public infrastructure works in Brisbane;
- having acted for mine owners in the resolution of a dispute over construction and earthworks relating to the Chevron project in PNG;
- having acted for mine owners in respect of litigation concerning the defective design of two longwall coal miners in Central Queensland coalfields;
- acted for an American aeronautical company in respect of allegations concerning the engineering and design of the Blackhawk helicopters involved in a military disaster in North Queensland in which 17 soldiers were killed.
John is actively involved in the firm’s education program for clients and regularly delivers and publishes papers in relation to the construction industry.
John also lectures in a University of Queensland Construction Masters subject and is a member of the Advisory Board for the Construction Law Masters course at the University of Melbourne.
