Allens Arthur Robinson is top legal adviser on project finance deals in Asia-Pacific for 2004
12 January 2005
Allens Arthur Robinson has won the coveted top spot on both the 'Asia-Pacific Legal Advisers on Project Finance Deals 2004' table and the 'Australasia Legal Advisers on Project Finance Deals 2004' table in the Dealogic Project Finance Review for 2004.
The firm is also the only Australian-based firm ranked in the top 10, winning eighth place in the Global table.
The firm is credited with 27 deals for the year and apportioned deal credit of US$5.2 billion. This equates to an 11.9 percent market share in Asia-Pacific and a 28.9 percent market share in Australasia.
Jim Dunstan, Executive Partner, Asia Pacific and Banking & Finance, said "We have been the highest ranked Australian-based firm on Dealogic's annual global project finance league table for every year since its inception. To win Asia-Pacific as well this year gives us a boost as we grow our Asian office network and strengthen our resources in the region."
The Dealogic win follows the recent announcement that Allens Arthur Robinson will open a new office in Beijing this month to meet demand in the booming Chinese economy and to be closer to key Chinese decision makers in the Central Government. It also follows the move of key partner Steve Pemberton to head project finance for South East Asia from the firm's Singapore office.
"The Asian project finance market is starting to pick up and we are very confident the trend will continue, " Mr Dunstan said.
"Steve Pemberton will head project finance for the region generally, focusing on Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Steve came to prominence leading the landmark Melbourne City Link toll road financing in the mid 1990s. He is a superb lawyer with recent project finance deals including the award-winning A$2.5 billion Western Sydney Orbital, Newcrest's Telfer Mine, the Commonwealth Games Athlete's Village and Wonthaggi Wind Farm. Steve also spent a number of years in the firm's Hong Kong office."
