Allens promotes six new partners

12 June 2012

Allens has appointed six senior associates to partnership of the firm.

The appointments in banking and finance, litigation, funds management and projects reflect the firm's focus on investing in, and bringing through, key talent in key practice areas. The new partners are located in the firm's Sydney, Melbourne and Perth offices and follow the appointment of lateral partner Joanne Daniels to the firm's Brisbane office recently.

'We have invested heavily in identifying where our clients' needs are and who at the firm can best meet them,' said Allens Chairman Ewen Crouch. 'All of our new partners have developed strong client relationships through working with them on demanding and complex matters.'

Mr Crouch said the appointment of three banking and finance partners reflected both the growth of that practice across the country and a determination to keep it at the forefront of the market.

'You're seeing us growing that practice in Brisbane and this year in Perth through Ben Farnsworth's appointment,' said Mr Crouch.

'Plus you're bringing through a new generation of talent in Renee Boundy, who's already established herself as one of Australia's experts on personal property securities, and Warwick Newell whose worked on major matters such as the Centro restructuring.'

New litigation partner Jenny Campbell has been involved in defending a number of clients in shareholder and financial services class actions, while funds management partner Marc Kemp worked at one of South Africa's largest law firms before joining Allens. Projects partner David Donnelly previously worked in the firm's Vietnam and Singapore offices and, most recently, a number of billion-plus dollar PPPs in Australia.

'This group is also notable in being the first new Allens partners under the integrated alliance with Linklaters, which began on May 1,' said Mr Crouch.

He has worked with a range of clients both in Australia and Asia – having spent more than four years in the firm's Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City offices – and advises on all aspects of infrastructure matters.

Ben Farnsworth – Perth

Ben began his legal career with the firm in 2000 and re-joined in 2010 after practising for five years in the London finance team of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. He has advised financiers and sponsors on major financings in the mining, oil and gas, infrastructure and agribusiness sectors both in Australia and overseas.
