Allens has advised G4S Correctional Services (Australia) Pty Ltd on the renegotiation and extension of its operating contract at the Port Phillip Prison.

The extension reflects current contracting for the operation of custodial facilities and aligns, where appropriate, with the award-winning Ravenhall Prison Project and the recent contract extension at the Fulham Correctional Centre. Allens advised on both of those transactions.

The new contract will commence from 10 September 2017 and run for up to 20 years and represents a $3.11 billion nominal investment over the life of the contract by the State of Victoria ($1.83 billion in net present terms).

The Allens team was led by Partner David Donnelly, who said, 'the firm was proud to have advised G4S on this important transaction. Allens worked alongside Manik Meah, the G4S in-house team and G4S's technical advisers as an integrated team. It was a very enjoyable and rewarding transaction and a good example of our ability to respond to the needs of our clients.

'Allens has had a long and distinguished track record of working on the most significant major projects around the region, including on all of the recent major, correctional projects across Australia and New Zealand. The team has advised on around $11 billion (nominal) worth of investments in the custodial sector over the past 18 months.'

The Port Phillip Prison is a maximum security facility with a current capacity of 1087 beds.
