After a detailed merger review, on 19 November 2015, the ACCC unconditionally cleared Royal Dutch Shell Plc's A$98 billion takeover of BG Group Plc. This is one of the largest takeovers in corporate history and is the largest global energy deal in over a decade since the merger of Shell's Dutch and British arms in 2004.

The deal is still subject to other regulatory approvals.

Allens' role on the deal caps off a strong year for the firm's competition team. The firm has secured unconditional ACCC clearance on several significant deals including Pfizer's acquisition of Hospira and Foxtel's purchase up to 15 per cent of Network Ten Holdings.
