Australia's and Japan's leading law firms enter innovative alliance
1 October 2010
Two of the region's leading international law firms have entered into an innovative Co-operative Alliance focusing on meeting Japanese client needs in Australia and across Asia.
Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) and Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu (NO&T) will launch a cooperative framework to service clients operating in the region.
The Co-operative Alliance cleverly responds to the growing internationalisation of legal services in the region and provides a unique platform for delivery of these services to clients.
'There is significant Japanese in-bound investment into Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other South-East Asia countries (not to mention into North Asia). Given Allens' extensive presence and experience in the region and NO&T's superb client base in Japan, we see significant advantages in working together to offer more to Japanese clients.' said Allens Chief Executive Partner Michael Rose.
'We've known Allens for over 30 years,' said Mr Hisashi Hara, Chairman of NO&T 'Like us they are focused on excellence and client service and like us they have a very strong focus on responding to the growing needs of clients from Japan as they continue to invest or expand their operations in Australia and across Asia.
'By leveraging our knowledge of each other and clear positions of strength in the region, we're confident that we'll be providing a level of service and legal advice second to none to our clients, whether conducting business in Japan, Australia or elsewhere in Asia,' said Mr Kenichi Fujinawa, Managing Partner of NO&T
Allens will second lawyers to NO&T's Tokyo office and NO&T to Allens' offices with both firms working together on marketing and training initiatives in the region.
Both firms will retain their structural and financial independence.
'The Co-operative Alliance recognises that, notwithstanding the growth of China, Japan remains a critically important player in the region and clients from Japan continue to require premium level support and assistance and will benefit from this new approach to responding to their needs,' said Allens Japan Practice Lead Partner, Tim Lester.
'While energy and resources are clearly one area where our clients are investing in the region,' said Mr Fujinawa 'there is a much broader range of industry sectors including telecommunications, food and beverage and infrastructure, in relation to which both firms have special expertise and a wealth of relevant experience.'
