Allens Arthur Robinson a smart choice for women - Federal Government

21 February 2006

Leading law firm Allens Arthur Robinson (AAR) was today awarded an EOWA Employer of Choice for Women citation by the Federal Government's Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA).

One of only 116 organisations across the country to receive the citation and one of only five legal services firms, the citation recognises those who have demonstrated that they have policies and practices that support women across the organisation and these have had a positive outcome for both women and the business.

According to EOWA, these organisations typically boast women in higher numbers at senior levels, succession plans for women in management, development plans for high achievers, paid maternity leave and high maternity leave retention rates and the ability to work part time at all levels.

AAR was first awarded the citation in 2005.

'The requirements for the awarding of the EOWA Employer of Choice for Women citation are demanding, but there is no doubt that meeting them benefits our staff, the firm and our clients,' said Tom Poulton, AAR's Managing Partner and Women@AAR committee member.

'We will continue to pursue policies and practices that allow women and men the same opportunity to shine in the work environment.'

The Women@AAR initiative includes the creation of a network designed to improve communication and career development opportunities for our women in each of our Australian offices. Under the Mentoring Program, each of the women participants is matched with an internal (partner) and external (leading business person) mentor, with a view to supporting them to develop strong professional relationships.
