Allens advises Victorian Government on new trams purchase
28 September 2010
Allens Arthur Robinson (Allens) has advised the Victorian Department of Transport on the procurement of 50 new low-floor trams for the state's expanding public transport system.
The procurement is part of an $807 million investment by the Victorian Government, which will include a new tram maintenance and storage depot at Preston.
The Allens team, led by Partner Paul Kenny, worked on all aspects of the procurement, including advising on the tender process, drafting key acquisition and maintenance documents, negotiating agreements with the successful tenderer and advising on the arrangements under which the new trams will be made available to Yarra Trams.
Mr Kenny said the firm's involvement in this matter once again confirms Allens' pre-eminent role in advising on Victorian and national transport sector transactions across infrastructure, freight and passenger operations. This work included advising the Victorian Government on the Metropolitan Rail Franchising Project, which was completed last year.
'Allens has once again shown its expertise in handling significant transport projects that sees the firm draw on multiple practice groups to help our client achieve the best possible result,' Mr Kenny said.
'We are particularly proud of our long-standing relationship with the Victorian Government when it comes to major transport projects.'
