Codex Commission create antimicrobial resistance task force
July 12 – The 172 member Codex commission, established as the international food standards-setting body has agreed to a task force addressing antimicrobial resistance. The World Health Organisation, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation and the World Organisation for Animal Health have developed guidelines for the use of antimicrobials in treating human illnesses and animal production, to ensure food safety in light of increasing concerns of antibiotic resistant microorganisms. The task force will bring together animal health and production, human health and drug manufacturing sectors to combat the problem.
