Allens has advised APA Group, Australia's largest natural gas infrastructure business, on its US$5 billion (approximately A$6.05 billion) purchase of the Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) pipeline from the BG Group.

The firm also advised APA on its A$1.8 billion capital raising to partly fund the acquisition.

The 543km pipeline links gas fields in the Surat Basin to the QCLNG LNG plant at Gladstone.

The Allens team was led by Guy Alexander and Kate Towey.

Mr Alexander said that a large team from across the firm had worked on the deal since August.

He said the matter topped off an outstanding year for the firm in the infrastructure M&A space.

'The purchase by APA Group of the QCLNG pipeline is the second biggest M&A deal in Australia in 2014, after the sale of Queensland Motorways to Transurban, on which we also advised. The capital raising is also one of the biggest this year.

'This truly was a great team effort and we are extremely pleased to have been involved in this market leading transaction.'
