Two deals on which Allens advised have been recognised in the 2018 PFI Awards, taking out Clean Energy Deal of the Year and Infra Deal of the Year in the Asia-Pacific.

The awards, presented by Project Finance International in London, are considered the most prestigious in global capital markets.

The Kwinana waste-to-energy project – Australia's first commercial-scale waste-to-energy facility – was named Clean Energy Deal of the Year. Allens advised the senior financiers for the project, which will provide capacity to process 400,000 tonnes of waste a year and generate up to 45 megawatts of energy when completed and will likely spur further investment activity in waste to energy infrastructure.

Allens also advised the State of New South Wales on the $9.3 billion sale of a 51 per cent interest in the WestConnex project, which won Infra Deal of the Year. Currently Australia's largest road infrastructure project, WestConnex is central to the State's future transport needs and integrated transport plan.

'We are proud to have played a pivotal role on both of these award-winning projects,' said Partner Michael Ryan, head of Allens' Project Finance team.

'The fact that our clients have entrusted us to partner with them on these projects demonstrates Allens' sustained leadership in highly complicated and first-to-market transactions across all sectors of the Australian project finance market.'
