Allens has advised the energy division of ACCIONA on its agreement with Ark Energy Corporation, a new subsidiary of Korea Zinc Company, in relation to the 923MW MacIntyre Wind Farm development project in Queensland.

The agreement governs the late stage development, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the wind farm. The wind farm, together with the 100MW Karara wind farm owned by CleanCo Queensland, will form the 1,026MW MacIntyre Wind Farm Precinct – ACCIONA’s biggest renewable energy facility and one of the largest onshore wind farms in the world, with a total investment of near A$2 billion.

The MacIntyre Wind Farm is expected to be operational in 2024 and create enough clean energy to power around 700,000 homes.

'We congratulate ACCIONA on completing the partnership arrangements for the MacIntyre wind farm project and look forward to continue working with ACCIONA as it progresses the development of this world-leading project,' said lead Partner Kate Axup.

For the Allens team this milestone is the culmination of many years' work on the MacIntyre Wind Farm project – Allens has advised ACCIONA on the development of the MacIntyre Wind Farm project from its inception in 2014. That work began with the initial land tenure arrangements and since then has involved renewable energy specialists from across many of the Firm's offices and practices groups.

'The Allens team is very proud of its longstanding relationship with ACCIONA and we are all absolutely thrilled for the Energy team of ACCIONA here in Australia and in Spain,' commented Relationship Partner, Michael Graves.

Allens is one of Asia Pacific's leading advisers on green energy projects, having advised on many of the region's most significant developments and transactions, including the establishment of the Powering Australian Renewables Fund, John Laing's sale of its portfolio of wind farm assets, and the procurement and construction of TransGrid's proposed 860-kilometre electricity interconnector.
