Allens and Gide advise Naval Group on the program for 12 regionally superior submarines for Australia
15 February 2019
Allens, working alongside Gide Loyrette Nouel, has advised Naval Group, the European leader in naval defence, and its subsidiary, Naval Group Australia Pty Ltd, on the Strategic Partnering Agreement with the Commonwealth Government for Australia's $50 billion Attack Class Submarine Program.
The program represents the largest Commonwealth defence procurement in Australia and is among the largest defence procurements in the world.
Allens and Gide advised on all aspects of Naval Group's engagement as the platform system integrator for the Program, including the Strategic Partnering Agreement, mobilisation, design and submarine construction yard infrastructure development.
The multidisciplinary Allens and Gide team spanned the firm's Projects & Development and Technology, Media & Telecommunications teams, also incorporating expertise from Banking & Finance, Employment & Safety, Disputes & Investigations and Intellectual Property, Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys.
'We're honoured to have worked with Naval Group on this once-in-a-generation procurement,' said joint lead Partner Nigel Papi.
'It's been a privilege to work alongside Naval Group and Gide for two-and-a-half years on this project, which will shape the Australian military for the next 40 years.'
The advice builds on Allens' and Gide's extensive experience in the defence sector, which has included significant procurement work in the Australian defence sector (Allens) and a longstanding relationship with the French defence industry (Gide).
The Commonwealth Government for Australia was advised by Clayton Utz.
