Allens recognised as a market leader in global Competition law rankings

Allens' Competition, Consumer & Regulatory team has received top tier rankings in the three leading industry guides, cementing its position as a pre-eminent firm for competition law in Australia.

The recently released Global Competition Review (GCR) 100, in which Allens was named in the top tier 'Elite' category, round out the trio of top rankings, with the firm also ranked band 1 for competition by both Chambers Asia Pacific and The Legal 500.

GCR 100 noted Allens' 'sterling reputation' as 'one of the very best competition groups in Australia', which 'blends a variety of industries and legal issues, from the Australia-specific energy and natural resources sectors to media and healthcare companies in need of advice'.

'We are delighted to have been recognised as a market leader in these three respected guides,' said Jacqueline Downes, Allens' Head of Competition, Consumer & Regulatory.

'The trust our clients place in our team to guide them through business-critical challenges and opportunities is the foundation of our practice.'

Allens successfully acted on some of the most significant competition matters in the market in 2017, including DuPont's merger with Dow and the first contested 'hub and spoke' case brought by the ACCC for PZ Cussons.

'2017 was a big year for competition, consumer and regulatory matters, both for Allens and in the market more broadly,' Ms Downes said.

'Reforms recommended in the Harper Review came into effect in November, introducing significant changes to misuse of market power, mergers, cartels and concerted practices, among numerous others.

'We expect 2018 to be another big year in this area as the limits of these reforms are tested.

'The ACCC's enforcement priorities for 2018 will be released on 20 February, and we will be working closely with our clients to navigate the implications for their businesses.'
