About Samantha Betzien
Samantha is a pre-eminent employment and safety lawyer. She joined Allens in June 2022 and was a partner at another major law firm from 2008. She was named 2022 Lawyer of the Year in Labour and Employment Law by Best Lawyers. Sam’s practice encompasses strategic, complex and sensitive workplace issues. She advises on front end and litigious employment matters and is an experienced employment advocate.
In the area of work health and safety, Sam’s expertise is widely sought. Her practice includes providing advice on compliance and risk management strategies, managing coronial inquests, investigations and prosecutions.
Sam regularly provides training to clients on employment and safety issues, and helps companies to create effective safety governance processes. Sam's clients include Sunwater, Energy Queensland, Glencore Coal and Unity Water. Sam's experience prior to joining Allens includes:
- Advising the boards of various government-owned corporations in Queensland.
- Acting in a major and long-running industrial dispute and litigation for a tier 1 construction company.
- Acting in safety investigations and prosecutions for a number of large national resources companies.
