About Tony Shaw PhD

Tony has significant experience as an Australian and New Zealand patent attorney specialising in biotechnology with a focus on the life sciences, healthcare, digital health and agribusiness sectors. He has significant experience advising clients on capturing, protecting, commercialising and enforcing their intellectual property (IP) rights.

Local and foreign clients turn to Tony to advise on both contentious and non-contentious patent matters, including providing strategic IP advice on patent prosecution, patent validity and enforcement. Tony advises academic institutions, start-ups, and emerging companies. He is also responsible for managing the Australian and New Zealand IP portfolios for large multinationals.

Tony has an honours degree in biochemistry and microbiology and a doctorate in microbiology from the University of Queensland. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK) and subsequently led a research group studying molecular aspects of cardiovascular disease in the Department of Medicine at University College London supported by the Wellcome Trust and the British Heart Foundation.

Tony is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK).
