The tools available to lawyers may be changing rapidly, but the fundamentals of good legal advice haven't. Complex matters still require experience, judgement and a clear understanding of what matters most.
At Allens, we're looking at how AI, data and automation can support those fundamentals. Used well, technology can help teams make sense of large volumes of information, identify issues sooner and spend less time on routine work, creating more space for legal insight, strategic thinking and collaboration.
This isn't about technology replacing expertise. It's about bringing lawyers, technologists and data specialists together and applying the right tools to the right problems, while keeping professional judgement and accountability firmly with our people.
Many of our alumni are navigating the same questions in their own organisations. And while there's plenty of discussion about what AI could mean for the profession, some of the most compelling examples are already emerging through our work.
Turning a million records into clear answers
Allens combined legal expertise, data analytics and AI review tools to help a major financial services organisation identify, connect and assess more than 1 million records across multiple regulatory investigations. The approach cut the population requiring manual review by more than 40% and saved thousands of legal hours, helping the team focus on the information that mattered most under significant time pressure.
Scaling regulatory response across 14 million documents
Allens helped a major financial services client build a centralised operating model for regulatory response, combining legal expertise, review services and digital capability. Since July 2024, the model has helped manage approximately 14 million documents across more than 90 regulatory productions, reducing duplication and giving legal teams a predictable way to handle recurring regulatory demand.
Building a single source of truth for regulatory information
Allens partnered with a major bank to build a secure, centralised repository for regulatory information, enabling prior work to be reused across matters and creating a platform for applying data and AI capabilities. The result was reduced duplication, faster response to regulators and stronger governance in a demanding regulatory environment.
