Allens has advised Sumitomo Corporation on its incorporated joint venture with Tivan Limited to develop, finance and operate the Speewah Fluorite Project in northeast Western Australia.

Allens advised on all aspects of Sumitomo's investment, including the suite of binding joint venture documents and required regulatory approvals.

Fluorite is an essential mineral for semiconductor manufacturing, renewable energy technologies and lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. It was placed on Australia's Critical Mineral List in 2023.

'We're seeing growing interest from major global investors, and Japanese investors in particular, for offtake agreements and equity interests in early-stage projects,' said lead partner Jodi Reinmuth.

'We are delighted to have advised Sumitomo on this important investment in one of the world's largest high-grade fluorite resources.'
