About Naomi Bergman

Naomi is a specialist in environmental, planning and native title law. Naomi assists clients at all stages of their projects, including advising on feasibility, rezonings, planning approval and environmental licensing requirements, and acting in planning appeals in the NSW Land and Environment Court.

Naomi has advised on major projects and transactions across a broad range of sectors, including major residential, retail and industrial developments, infrastructure projects, and projects and transactions in the renewable energy and mining sectors.

Naomi's expertise includes:

  • advising on all environmental and planning approval requirements for major projects, including EPBC Act approval requirements, permits for vegetation clearing and water licensing;
  • advising on contaminated land and environmental compliance issues;
  • negotiating complex voluntary planning agreements;
  • advising on native title and Aboriginal cultural heritage issues;
  • assisting clients to navigate regulatory investigations by the EPA and Department of Planning;
  • acting in planning appeals and prosecutions in the NSW Land and Environment Court; and
  • acting in proceedings concerning the compulsory acquisition of land.

Naomi's recent experience includes:

  • Water NSW – advising on the construction of a 270km water supply pipeline from the Murray River to Broken Hill;
  • acting as lead environmental, planning and native title advisor to Treasury NSW on the long-term lease of 49% of the NSW electricity transmission and distribution networks and the sale of a 51% interest in Sydney Motorway Corporation;
  • AGL – advising in relation to the sale of various renewable energy projects into the Powering Australian Renewables Fund, including solar farms at Nyngan and Broken Hill and the Silverton Wind Farm;
  • Sydney Airport – advising on its bid to construct and operate the Western Sydney Airport;
  • Meridian Energy – advising on the acquisition of three hydro power stations in NSW; and
  • advising on numerous residential, retail and industrial developments, including projects for Coles, LOGOS, Lendlease and Greenland, and acting in appeals in the Land and Environment Court.
