Tom is a market leading M&A lawyer, Practice Leader of the Allens Corporate practice and the Co-head of the Allens' Private Equity practice. He regularly advises many of Australia's largest corporations on their most significant, strategic mergers and acquisitions and is consistently recognised as one of Australia's leading M&A and private equity lawyers.

Tom’s experience includes advising:

  • MIRA, Macquarie Capital and China Communications Construction Company – in relation to a consortium bid for the Port of Newcastle.
  • MIRA – in relation to the sale of equity in Regis Aged Care Group.
  • QIC Global Infrastructure – on the sale of Queensland Motorways to a consortium involving Transurban, Australian Super and ADIA for A$7.1 billion.
  • GIP, CPPIB and CIC consortium – on the $9.05 billion acquisition of Asciano Limited by way of a joint scheme of arrangement.
  • Global Infrastructure Partners – on the sale of a 26.7% stake in the Port of Brisbane to The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec for more than A$1 billion.
  • Q Port Holdings, a consortium comprising Global Infrastructure Partners, Industry Funds Management, QIC Global Infrastructure and ADIA – on the A$2.3 billion acquisition of the 99 year lease of the Port of Brisbane from the Queensland Government.
  • QIC, CPPIB and AIMCo consortium – on the consortium’s bid for Port Botany and Port Kembla.
  • ERM Power – on the bid for the Macquarie Generation coal-fired power generation assets.
  • Macquarie Capital – on the equity financing arrangements in connection with its US$2.1 billion acquisition, alongside Brookfield Asset Management, of the Apache Energy Western Australian oil and gas assets.
  • China Communications Construction Company – on its acquisition of John Holland from Leighton Holdings for an enterprise value of approximately A$1.15 billion.
