About Robert Munro
Robert is a registered Trans-Tasman patent attorney and a member of IPTA and the Law Institute of Victoria. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical & Manufacturing) with honours, a Bachelor of Laws with honours, and a Masters of Intellectual Property.
Robert’s practice focuses on his clients’ commercial objectives, and ensuring that their creative technical achievements get the protection they need to succeed. In addition to his specialisation in registered designs, Robert has wide expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, to inventions in areas including building and construction, mining, automotive, oil and gas, and other mechanical and electrical products and manufacturing processes.
Robert’s general experience includes:
- drafting and prosecuting Australian and overseas patent applications for building products, mining technology, electrical control systems and valves;
- experience in patent opposition proceedings in fields including mining products and manufacturing of consumables;
- conducting freedom-to-operate searches in a variety of fields including building products, oil and gas, mining and automotive; and
- advice on patent validity and infringement where litigation is pending.
Prior to joining the patent profession, Robert worked as a mechanical engineer for EV Engineering. EV Engineering was a collaborative venture supported by leading Australian automotive suppliers, Air International, Bosch, Continental, Futuris, GE and electric car infrastructure provider, Better Place, to develop proof of concept electric vehicles. At EV Engineering, Robert was responsible for the concept, design and manufacture of many key mechanical and electrical systems, including components of the battery pack, hardware to allow automated switching of the battery pack and parts of a robotic switch station to transfer battery packs.
