About Rebecca Ritchie

Rebecca specialises in all aspects of planning and environmental law, particularly in the context of redevelopment projects and transactions across a range of sectors including energy, infrastructure and mining, and in the real estate sector across retail, commercial, residential, seniors living, emerging technologies and industrial and logistics developments.

She is skilled in coordinating teams to drive development outcomes on complex projects, giving targeted advice at all stages of a project lifecycle—from land acquisition, rezoning and securing approvals, to development, operation and on-sale.

Rebecca also represents clients in court proceedings on planning appeals, challenges to approvals, land acquisition compensation claims, land valuation objections and advising on and defending clients threatened with environmental prosecution.

She is involved in key industry organisations including the Urban Taskforce and the NSW Environment and Planning Law Association.

Her experience includes advising on:

  • planning and associated regulatory approvals
  • rezonings, particularly for large urban renewal projects
  • voluntary planning agreements involving the provision of complex public domain works and community facilities, at both state and local government levels
  • contaminated land issues and environmental licensing
  • compliance with planning and environmental laws and responding to regulatory investigations
  • biodiversity, heritage and environmental protection legislation
  • compulsory land acquisitions
  • land valuation objections.
