About George Salter

George is an energy and resources specialist, with a particular focus on the mining, oil and gas, LNG, and CCS sectors. 

Within these sectors, George's practice covers project development, M&A, joint ventures, commodity sales and marketing, and strategic advisory matters.

Some recent examples of George’s relevant experience include advising:
  • CITIC on all aspects of the Sino Iron Project in Western Australia.
  • Rio Tinto on the sell-down and formation of a joint venture with Sumitomo Metal Mining related to the development of the Winu copper-gold project in WA.
  • Rio Tinto on the development of the Simandou project in Guinea.
  • Rio Tinto on the sale of Dampier Salt's Lake MacLeod salt / gypsum operations.
  • Woodside on a range of LNG sale and purchase arrangements, including advising on:
    • a long-term LNG sale and purchase agreement with PETRONAS; and
    • two long-term LNG sale and purchase agreements with Commonwealth LNG.
  • Woodside on a range of long-term / spot domestic gas sale and purchase agreements.
  • Santos on the divestment of offshore oil and gas assets in Australia.
  • IOC in respect of its LNG operations in Papua New Guinea.
  • Woodside on its participation in the NeoSmelt joint venture with Rio Tinto, BlueScope, BHP and Mitsui.
  • Global Infrastructure Partners on the acquisition for US$2bn of an interest in Woodside’s WA Pluto LNG Train 2.
  • Confidential clients on the early-stage development of a number of ammonia / CCS projects in Australia and the APAC region.
