About Tom Tian

Tom is a tax adviser specialising in stamp duty, GST and land tax.

Tom has over 12 years’ experience advising clients on a diverse range of transactions across many different sectors, including private capital, real estate, financial services, infrastructure, energy and mining.

He currently chairs the Property Council of Australia’s NSW Taxation Committee.

Recent experience includes advising:
  • Unilever plc: on stamp duty in connection with the restructure and demerger of The Magnum Ice Cream Company
  • Morrison Co: on stamp duty in connection with its acquisition of a further interest in the Sydney desalination plant
  • On stamp duty and land tax issues relating to formation of the Charter Hall Convenience Retail Fund
  • GPT: on stamp duty in connection with its acquisition of a half-share in the leasehold interests in Grosvenor Place office tower
  • Stockland Group: on stamp duty in connection with its partnership with EdgeConneX for the development of datacentres
  • The Star Entertainment Group: on stamp duty and GST issues in connection with its 2025 asset swap transactions with Chow Tai Fook and Far East Consortium
  • Whitehaven Coal Limited: on stamp duty and GST in connection with its acquisition of the Blackwater and Daunia mines and subsequent sale and formation of a joint venture with offshore partners
  • On the stamp duty aspects of the take private of listed horticulture group Costa Group
  • On stamp duty in connection with the $10bn merger of equals of Allkem and Livent.
