Lawyer Jeremy Sher believes constantly being challenged is an essential ingredient of a stimulating workplace. Working in the Energy, Infrastructure and Resources practice group in the Perth office of Allens Arthur Robinson during a Western Australian resources boom has certainly provided those challenges.
Jeremy completed an Arts/Law degree at the University of Western Australia in June 2006. He began at Allens in August 2006 as a law graduate, combining a nine-month course at the College of Law with the demands of a full-time position at the firm. He was admitted to practise in Western Australia in July 2007.
While in the Energy And Resources areas, Jeremy has worked on matters involving corporate and administrative law. His first rotation was in the Financial Services and Projects practice group, focusing on construction litigation and international commercial arbitration. In 2007, Jeremy took some time out from legal practice to complete postgraduate studies in government at the London School of Economics.
Jeremy says that his experience so far at the firm has taught him the necessity of working efficiently in a team environment.
'When you work in a team, the rest of the team is relying on you.
'I've learnt that effective teamwork is achieved by constant, clear communication and maintaining a high standard of work by paying close attention to detail.'
He has also learnt that the breadth of experience of Allens' partners and lawyers provides valuable opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge.
'I think that throughout a legal career you want to be gaining new skills and feel like you are developing, both professionally and personally. At Allens, I am learning new things that I know I wouldn't have learnt had I been working in a different type of legal practice.'
Outside work, Jeremy plays touch rugby, goes to the gym, and enjoys reading and going to the cinema.
