Allens PTA recruits qualified trade marks attorneys and patent attorneys from within Australia and overseas.

In addition, we invite applications from high calibre people with or without legal qualifications who want to become trade marks attorneys or patent attorneys. For those interested in training to be a patent attorney, we require candidates who have an appropriate university qualification in engineering or science, preferably to a postgraduate level. People wishing to train as patent attorneys normally first join us as vacation clerks, articled clerks or technical assistants.

To qualify as a patent attorney, in addition to having the required academic science or engineering qualification, you must complete training under the supervision of a qualified patent attorney for at least one year and pass a number of examinations in prescribed subjects. Comprehensive training is provided for those seeking qualification as a trade marks attorney or patent attorney, as well as support to complete the subjects required for qualification.

Our specialised team includes attorneys with technical backgrounds in the areas of biotechnology, IT, electronics, advanced engineering and chemistry. We manage all aspects of the trade mark, patent and design portfolios of clients in all industries. To see more about us, visit our Allens PTA site.

We work closely with the Allens Arthur Robinson intellectual property team to offer all commercial and litigation services essential to the successful creation, acquisition, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property.

The firm pays relocation costs for overseas and interstate qualified recruits, assists with accommodation, arranges visas and assists with re-qualification requirements. Staff new to the firm take part in a comprehensive induction program and are allocated a buddy to help them settle in.
