Infrastructure

Our team has achieved international recognition for its advice to government and corporate bidders on many of the region's most significant privatisation and infrastructure deals.

Drawing upon strategic knowledge, technical aptitude, negotiation skills and commercial expertise, we ensure successful and timely delivery of the most complex and ambitious projects. We can help with the range of issues affecting your business - everything from financing, construction, environment and planning through to property, native title, industry regulation and government contracting. Importantly, we adopt a team approach and work together with other advisers to ensure that each project is a success.

Additionally, we have significant experience in all aspects of PPP transactions. We have been involved in the majority of major BOO/BOOT projects in Australia, from the Sydney Harbour Tunnel (the first major BOOT project in Australia) to the latest PPP/PFI transactions, for example, the Southern Cross Station Redevelopment in Melbourne and Cross City Tunnel in Sydney. We have acted for governments, contractors, financiers and consortia and so we have an excellent understanding of the expectations, requirements and approaches of private and public sector participants in major infrastructure projects.

Experience you can count on

Our lawyers continue to claim international accolades for leadership in the field. From power stations and hospitals, to the Alice Springs to Darwin Railway, we've acted on a vast range of infrastructure projects in every Australian state as well as in the Asia Pacific region. Our legal successes have included Australia's first sales of state-owned energy assets, private road construction and tollways and public transport sell-offs.

As one of the largest law firms in the region, we have 11 offices spanning seven Asia Pacific countries, including offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Port Moresby, Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Phnom Penh. This is complemented by our 'best friends' relationship with Slaughter and May to work together in the Asia Pacific region.

We'll exceed expectations

We'll bring you innovation, excellence, achievement and an ability to exceed - rather than just meet - your expectations. Our lawyers have the depth of knowledge and experience to bring together a consortium, manage a project, identify legal issues and draft all your legal documentation. For example, we advised Power Partnership (a consortium of Utilicorp, AMP and State Superannuation of NSW) on all aspects of its A$1.55 billion acquisition of United Energy Ltd from the Victorian Government, including due diligence, strategic industry advice, contract negotiations and structuring and financing. United Energy Ltd was the first electricity distribution company to be privatised in Australia and its successful acquisition led the way for the sale of the remaining four power distributors by the Victorian Government.
