Allens advises Development Victoria on Ivanhoe Tank Site residential project

Allens has advised Development Victoria (DV) on the Ivanhoe Tank Site project, a residential redevelopment initiative which forms part of the Victorian Government’s program to unlock surplus government land for housing and public open space.

The Ivanhoe Tank Site, which previously housed a water tank that ceased operations in 2004, will deliver approximately 275 new homes within an established inner-suburban location, including 10% affordable housing and a new 2000 square metre public park.

Allens advised DV from the outset of the project, including on the acquisition of the site through a land swap arrangement between Yarra Valley Water, Banyule City Council and DV, the competitive procurement process run by DV to select a development partner, and the drafting and negotiation of the development agreement and associated project documentation.

‘This project reflects the State’s continued focus on addressing housing supply challenges by unlocking underutilised brownfield land in well‑serviced and highly sought‑after suburbs,' said lead partner Michael Graves.

'We are increasingly seeing government clients pursue complex, multi‑party transactions to bring forward residential development outcomes while also delivering public amenity and affordable housing.

‘The Ivanhoe Tank Site project demonstrates how surplus infrastructure land can be repurposed to deliver long‑term community benefit, combining new housing supply with meaningful open space in locations where demand remains strong.’
