Allens has advised ACEnergy and vendors on the sale of the Yanco Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project to BW ESS, supporting the continued growth of large-scale energy storage infrastructure across Australia.
The Yanco BESS is a 250MW / four-hour battery energy storage project and is approved for development. It will connect to the adjacent Yanco Substation, helping to strengthen the local electricity network and support the broader energy transition.
'Battery energy storage continues to play a critical role in Australia's energy transition, and we are seeing sustained investor interest in both standalone and co-located BESS projects,' said co-lead partner Michelle Bennett.
'We are proud to have supported ACEnergy and the vendors, and to have worked alongside Azure as the financial adviser, on this important transaction. We were delighted that we could bring the depth of our multi-disciplinary team to deliver a successful sale', said co-lead partner Lisa Zhou.
The Yanco BESS is expected to deliver significant environmental benefits, with the potential to offset approximately 365,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year while supporting the electricity needs of around 80,000 homes per day.
Allens has extensive experience advising clients throughout the lifecycle of BESS projects, having previously advised on the Akaysha Energy on the Elaine BESS, as well as advising lenders on the Supernode Stages 1 and 2 BESS, the Supernode Stage 3 BESS and Gnarwarre BESS projects.
