Allens advises Multiplex on Australian Institute for Infectious Disease design and construction

Key adviser: David Donnelly

Allens has advised Multiplex on its successful bid to build the Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID), a major medical research and pandemic response initiative in Melbourne’s Biomedical Precinct.

The AIID will bring together the University of Melbourne, the Doherty Institute and the Burnet Institute. The Allens team advised on the early contractor involvement agreement and the progressive negotiation of the design and construction contract during that phase.

Partner David Donnelly said: 'We are seeing project owners increasingly use early contractor involvement to work through commercial and technical issues and optimise risk allocation and value for money before moving into delivery. We’re pleased to continue supporting Multiplex on AIID, which is a good example of that approach in practice.'

The project continues Multiplex’s contribution to Melbourne’s Biomedical Precinct, following its delivery of the Doherty Institute in 2014.

The matter builds on Allens’ longstanding relationship with Multiplex, with the firm also advising on the $525 million Atlas Melbourne development and the $800 million AURA tower at Melbourne Square.
