Delivering hope in Vietnam

Born from a desire to empower Vietnamese women to escape family violence, HopeBox provides employment opportunities and support for women who have experienced abuse.

Earlier this year, our team in Hanoi assisted HopeBox apply for and obtain a Social Enterprise Licence from the Government of Vietnam.

Huong Dang founded HopeBox with the simple goal of helping rural Vietnamese women who have experienced domestic violence obtain a fresh start and break the cycle of abuse. By providing women with employment opportunities, HopeBox is helping remove the stigma that women should remain the family 'peacekeeper' and endure abuse.

HopeBox runs a food delivery service and a cafe that employs women who have experienced abuse to prepare and cook the food. Ordering a meal from HopeBox allows locals to directly help a victim of domestic violence earn a fair wage, learn new skills and live at a safe house.

HopeBox also runs a Social Enterprise Study Tour to enable international university students and corporates to learn about its business model and the social enterprise movement in Vietnam. Through its Back to School fund, the organisation offers scholarships to children who have experienced domestic violence, supporting their return to school.

The Allens team, led by Partner Melissa Keane, jumped at the opportunity to support the incredible work the organisation does by helping HopeBox apply for a Social Enterprise License from the Government of Vietnam. Our pro bono support continues and will extend to assisting them with sponsorship applications and the establishment of partnerships with organisations such as Australian Volunteers International.

For Huong, obtaining a Social Enterprise Licence symbolised the inroads HopeBox has made in increasing awareness of domestic violence in Vietnam.

'The Licence is not just a formality allowing us to work towards a sustainable future, it is also a great recognition from the Government of Vietnam of the work we do and that the issue of domestic violence very much exists in our community.'

'We are unbelievably grateful for Allens' support and thank the team for their strong support and professionalism and we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership in the future,' she said.
