About Yu Zhang
Yu is a Partner specialising in the banking and finance sector. His experience encompasses transactions, derivatives, as well as major infrastructure and regulatory changes. He acts on major lending transactions for borrowers, domestic and international banks and fund lenders, including in corporate finance, property finance, renewable projects, trade and asset finance and restructuring, particularly those involving complex structuring.
He also advises on financial market transactions and regulation for leading domestic banks, global investment banks, Australia's largest super funds, private capital funds, investment managers, ASX100 companies, regulators, exchanges, clearing and payment systems and other market infrastructure operators across all asset classes, including interest rates, FX, equity derivatives, commodity derivatives and credit derivatives. These include highly complicated structured derivatives, equity stake builds in public M&A transactions, securities lending, repurchase transactions (repos), custody arrangements, collateral arrangements, netting, prime brokerage and clearing, and acting for market participants, exchanges, clearing and payment systems, and regulators. He also has experience in coordinating major regulatory projects, especially those with global coverage, including derivative transaction reporting, initial margin, benchmark reform and unfair contracts.
Yu also specialises in major trends affecting global loan and financial markets. He co-leads Allens' carbon credit market group, advising large carbon credit traders, banks and others in relation to their carbon credit market transactions. He is a key member of the Allens digital assets group acting for regulators and fintechs, having led landmark projects in the area of digital currency.
He is a member of the documentation committee and financial crimes working group of the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association (APLMA), the Australia Working Group of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) and the conference planning committee of the Banking and Financial Services Law Association (BFSLA). He is a regular speaker at key industry forums organised by these and other bodies, and is a contributor to publications.
