Ben's primary areas of expertise are in the energy, resources and native title fields.
Ben has many years of experience in dealing with the full spectrum of issues that arise in respect of energy and resources projects. He has advised numerous clients on the establishment of new projects, on the disposal and acquisition of major projects, and on the establishment of joint venture arrangements. He is also experienced in advising clients on a range of infrastructure agreements associated with such projects (such as rail and port), mineral and gas sale agreements, environmental issues and dealings with third party stakeholders (such as landowners).
Ben has advised clients operating in the coal, precious metal, base metal and gas industries on these issues.
Ben also advises a range of clients on native title and cultural heritage issues. He has been involved in the negotiation and drafting of a number of native title agreements and cultural heritage management plans for significant resources and infrastructure projects, and has represented clients successfully in several native title disputes. Ben has acted for clients in a number of precedent-setting matters, including the first contested access agreement determined by the Queensland Land and Resources Tribunal and the first use of special powers to acquire native title for a large infrastructure project.
