Allens advises Reventus Power on offshore wind feasibility licence win

Energy Offshore wind

Allens has advised Reventus Power, a key member of the Gippsland Skies Offshore Wind consortium, on securing a feasibility license for one of the country's first areas to be declared for offshore wind development. The other consortium members are AGL Energy, Mainstream Renewable Power and DIRECT Infrastructure.

The licence will allow the consortium to assess the feasibility of its proposed offshore wind project before applying for a commercial licence to proceed with construction and operations. Gippsland Skies is one of the first six projects awarded a feasibility licence by the federal government. The government received a total of 37 feasibility licence applications for the Gippsland offshore wind area.

'We are proud to have supported Reventus Power on the start of its journey to develop one of Australia's first offshore wind projects. Once fully operational, the Gippsland Skies Offshore Wind project could power up to 1.4 million homes which is equivalent to supplying approximately 17 percent of Victoria’s 2023 electricity demand, significantly advancing the state's transition to renewable energy,' said Partner Wendy Rae.

The first phase of the project is expected to be operational in 2032, and will contribute to the Victorian Government’s offshore wind targets of at least 2 GW by 2032 and 4 GW by 2035.

An interdisciplinary Allens team, from the firm's corporate, projects, competition and intellectual property practices, provided comprehensive advice to Reventus Power on all aspects of its participation in the Gippsland Skies consortium.
