Nicola is an experienced litigation lawyer. She has acted in a wide range of commercial disputes with a particular focus on arbitration, product liability and banking litigation. She provides a big picture view for her clients, advising on strategy and negotiations at first instance and on appeal. Her recent matters include:
- acting for Westpac in a number of concurrent employment claims in the Federal Court;
- advising on concurrent civil and criminal proceedings in Western Australia arising from the Varanus Island gas explosion and acting for one of the parties in the civil proceedings;
- long running proceedings in the Supreme Court of NSW seeking injunctions and damages for inundation of our client's land; and
- an arbitration in London concerning the interpretation of contracts for oil exploration in Equatorial Guinea.
She has also advised a number of clients with both Australian and international operations on document retention policies.
Nicola's biochemistry training enables her to quickly understand medical and scientific documents and evidence.
Nicola has completed formal training with LEADR in mediation and holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She has written extensively about arbitration both on the firm's website and in external publications. Nicola is a member of the Australasian Forum for International Arbitration.
