Key priorities for the coming year 5 min read

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has reaffirmed its proactive enforcement stance through the release of its 2026–2027 enforcement priorities, announced by Chair Gina Cass‑Gottlieb on 19 February 2026.

The ACCC’s focus for the year ahead reflects its continued commitment to protecting consumers and promoting fair competition across key sectors. Its priorities include:

  • taking action against conduct that places vulnerable consumers at risk of harm;
  • promoting competition in digital markets, the aviation sector and essential services such as telecommunications, gas and electricity;
  • scrutinising environmental claims as Australia continues its transition to net zero;
  • improving consumer trust by targeting unfair contract terms, with particular attention to cancellation practices such as automatic renewals, early termination fees and non‑cancellation clauses; and
  • maintaining its enduring focus on cartels, anti‑competitive conduct and product safety.
