Allens advises financiers for Canberra's Light Rail Stage 2A

Infrastructure & Transport Project Finance

Allens has advised the financiers to the Canberra Metro Consortium on the financing for the delivery of Light Rail Stage 2A and the refinancing of the debt facilities for Stage 1. Both the refinancing of Stage 1 and financing for Stage 2 are certified green loans.

Stage 2A City to Commonwealth Park, an augmentation of the existing public private partnership transaction, will extend the light rail network by 1.7 kilometres, with three new stops at Edinburgh Avenue, City South and Commonwealth Park.

'The transaction demonstrates the flexibility of PPPs and their ability to provide value-for-money outcomes for governments,' said partner Scott McCoy.

'The project will deliver improved public transport in Canberra and help shape the development of Canberra’s city centre.'

Allens has advised on a number of significant PPPs in the last 18 months, including advising financiers on successful bids for the Geelong Convention Centre PPP, the Victoria Ground Lease Model project, the Frankston Hospital PPP, and advising the financiers to the ACE Consortium on CWO Renewable Energy Zone project.
